Designed for the best-tasting brewed beveragesFor the best-tasting brewed drinks, the Water Boiler first dechlorinates the water by boiling it before cooling it to your selected Keep Warm setting (160°F, 175°F, 195°F, or 208°F). |
Convenient Electric Dispensing SystemHot water is available at your selected Keep Warm temperature with the push of a button, any time of the day. |
LCD DisplayShows actual water temperature at all times. |
Quick Temp ModeIdeal for filtered or bottled water, this mode heats the water directly to the selected Keep Warm temperature (160°F, 175°F and 195°F only) without reaching a boil. The water will reach the selected Keep Warm temperature quicker than regular mode. Other benefits include reduced steam and reduced energy use. |
208°F
Brew black, herbal, pu-erh, mate and rooibos tea; prepare coffee and instant noodles.
175°F
Brew various green teas (bancha, houjicha, genmaicha), white tea and matcha.
195°F
Brew oolong tea; reduces energy consumption by 27-28% compared to 208°F keep warm.
160°F
Brew high quality green tea (gyokuro) or delicate teas.
Safety Auto Shut-off
A safety function that automatically shuts off power to the heater in order to prevent damage from overheating. The display will show 'HH' to alert that Automatic Shut-Off has been activated. The following conditions may cause activation:
When the boiler is plugged in without filling the Inner Container with water; when the water level is lower than the Refill Line and when boiling has been attempted; when the unit is empty or the upper lid is left open, and when hot water is poured in immediately after unit was plugged in.
Automatic Dispense Lock
A safety feature to prevent hot water from being dispensed when the DISPENSE button is pressed accidentally. It is deactivated when the UNLOCK button is pressed. The Automatic Dispense-Lock will turn back on in about 10 seconds even if no water is dispensed.
Spill Protection
In-Spout Spill Protection when Tilted: A ball within the spout closes the opening to prevent hot water from spilling when tilted.
In-Lid Spill Protection when Tipped Over: A weight within the lid combined with the in-spout spill protection minimizes the amount of water that spills out when the product is tipped over.
Magnetic Power Cord
All Zojirushi water boilers come with a magnetic power cord that detaches easily from the unit. This prevents the water boiler from being pulled off a kitchen counter or shelf when the power cord is pulled (by a child or tripped over by accident), preventing scalds or other accidents.

Product description
Zojirushi Micom water boiler and warmer has a micro computerized temperature control and a one-touch electric dispensing system. It has four keep warm temperature settings: 160, 175, 195, 208 degrees F. This unit displays actual water temperature at all times. It is also has an energy saving timer function (6 - 10 hours) and easy-to-hear sound indicator to alert completion of boiling process or low water level. Quick temp mode heats the water directly to the selected keep warm temperature without reaching a boil. The water will reach the selected keep warm temperature quicker than regular mode. Other benefits include reduced steam and reduced energy use. This mode should be used when dechlorination is not necessary, such as when using bottled or purified water. To activate, press the reboil/quick temp button; the boil light blinks.

The temperature settings are in imperial unit Fahrenheit instead of metric Celcius and cannot be changed. There are 4 temperature settings it holds the water at, and a timer setting to choose how long to delay the boiling / maintain temperature in order to conserve energy -- but you must be diligent about using it otherwise you'd forget (I am talking about myself here).
It has a magnetic detachable electric cord (rather short!), and must be plugged into the wall outlet to perform its functions (boil, keep warm, dispense) -- it will not dispense water unless it's plugged in. There are other hot water dispensers that have other methods to dispense without having it plugged in, and are cheaper too, but I wanted this brand and saved for it (it is not the cheapest compared to others being sold on here).
The lid is removable as well: open the lid half way, then press the button on the lid's hinge to detach it -- pull it straight out towards you.
The dispenser swivels and turns on its base, so it can be plugged in while rotating on the spot while it's being used.
The other brands have stainless steel containers for water and I've read that it starts to rust (!); this container is not stainless steel and I only use the soft side of a sponge to wipe it down. To get rid of the white limescale water marks from calcium in my tap water, I dissolve a tablespoon of food-grade powdered citric acid I already bought from this website (I got it to make sour candies) in tap water, poured it in, then filled it up with tap water until the "Full" line, then let it boil and sit for a while. I dispense some out to clear out the pump / dispensing tube. Don't drink this sour water, it will eat away at your tooth enamel. Dump the sour contents into the sink. I try to descale it once a month (or so).
The buttons are automatically locked to prevent curious children and animals from accidentally using it and scalding themselves. To use, first press the "Unlock" button, and then the "Dispense" button. If you want a slower dispense for powdered drinks or instant cup noodles then press the "Dispense" button twice.
Like with most Japanese appliances (and your cell phones), it plays chimes and jingles with every button pressed or action performed (it announces that it's boiled, the timer delay, etc.) -- there are three sound profiles: a classical midi music one, a beeping one, and silence.
3 Litres capacity is enough for our household and helps us with our daily hydration goals. It is not cheap but for us it uses less electricity than constantly re-boiling our (broken) electric kettle (which doesn't maintain its temperature nor is it as well insulated) -- because we're not constantly waiting for water to re-boil to have hot water, the tea and coffee is drank more and we are more hydrated, so the higher cost (?) in electricity is worth it to us.
The Zojirushi turns on as soon as you plug it in. It'll boil the water and then keep it at your chosen temperature until you unplug it or set the timer to turn it off for a period of time. That's super convenient, but wasteful if you leave it going for 12 hours without using any hot water. I've put it on a smart plug with a timer. It turns on in the morning to boil the water, and turns off after a period of time. If I need water later in the day, I just turn the plug on. Without the smart plug, the Zojirushi (or any water boiler) wouldn't make sense for me.
Things I like about the Zojirushi:
- The magnetic power cord that's super easy to plug into the boiler (kind of like Apple MagSafe).
- The sturdy handle that makes it easy to lift.
- The base that enables you to turn the boiler around in a circle without having to lift it.
- The four keep-warm temperature settings.
- The big window that tells you how much water is left.
My only concern is that others have talked about this particular boiler having a short life span due to the interior rusting. I wonder if that's related to the quality of their tap water. Hopefully I can avoid it through regular cleaning.
Top reviews from other countries
Making pour-over coffees is so nice!
Making tea
Cleaning bowls and glasses with hard-to-remove foods when mixed with dish soap
Extremely instant noodles
Use it to purify tap water from time to time since it boils the water for 5 minutes and then settles to the desired temperature.
I have had a Zojirushi rice maker for over ten years, which I also love. Hopefully, this is a similar purchase.
