After 20 year of wet-shaving I am wondering why I did not switch earlier!
Performs as expected for a premium shaver, with minimal exceptions.
High powered, high speed cutting gets through everything that it touches, verses cheaper brands that need multiple passes, resulting In jagged cut hair, ingrowns and irritation.
Very smooth shave, and I’ve been able to get a much closer shave than expected from previous reviews I came across - I’d imagine this has more to do with skin pre-shave prep and technique than braun shaver performance.
Some of the flat-lying hairs on the throat we problematic to get stood up to cut, but I haven’t found anything but a straight razor to get those completely.
The cassette has clogged and become much less efficient if using creams or beard lines used for irritation/ingrown problems, but I’ve found oils used sparingly give enough glide without clogging the blades.
But definitely worth-while to put through a cleaning cycle after every shave either way.
The trimmer/edger has been nearly useless, which seems on par with other user reviews. It’s curved and perpendicular to the shaver body, so a bit cumbersome and awkward to attempt a straight line on edges.
Braun has included a manual in the box that recommends trying the shaver out for a couple weeks to ensure you’re satisfied. They include a guarantee that it can be returned if it doesn’t meet your expectations. I haven’t had to go that route yet with 3 weeks of trial use, but it’s reassuring that they strongly stand behind their product.
I’d say definitely worth trying it out!
Arrived promptly from Amazon and CP with no delivery issues.
I'd read the Braun 7 series was a superior razor so I decided on the 7865CC Series 7. Right out of the box it gave me a much faster, closer and more comfortable shave than my Philips ever did. The Philips head covers a wide swath with each pass, meaning it takes me perhaps 3 minutes to shave my face. I also shave my head. Doing both takes about 10 minutes.
This shaver does a much better job on parts of my face the Philips could never shave. If I didn't shave for a few days, the Philips always left stray whiskers under my nose and in the philtrum (that little vertical groove in the top lip below the nose). The Braun gets them all with little effort.
So far, I've simply remove the shaver head and run it under hot water to clean it. It appears to get the razor very clean. In 2 weeks, there's no visible residue in the head.
I also tried shaving with Gillette shaving gel. It works and makes the shave a little more comfortable. It seems to clean up very well, too. Having the wet/dry capability adds to the versatility and comfort of this shaver.
My only quibble so far is that it is significantly noisier than the Philips. It's not a big negative, and I'd rather have the comfort, speed and closer shave than a quiet but inferior result.
It seems that it will last at least 2 weeks without charging. That's very good.
Overall, the Braun 7865CC Series 7 is a pleasure to use. It's faster and less fuss than shaving with a blade, and far superior to my Philips rotary head shaver.
The price is unbeatable!!! I shopped around, and ended up at AMAZON, because the price was right...

The main point I could criticize about this equipment is that Braun system of making the vibrating blades and the external cutting-grid into a single, closed unity (called "cassette") that cannot be opened by the user. The piece is so complex and hermetically closed that you can't clean it manually at all. The only way to clean it satisfactorily and thoroughly is to use the cleaning station that comes with the equipment. Ok, I recognize that using the cleaning station makes the equipment very well-cleaned, in a most hygienic form. But you have to pay the price for it: buying, from time to time, a new "cleaning solution" cartridge from Braun (or making your own cleaning solution, if you are from the adventurous or explorer type - that's not my case, heheh!).
Speaking of that, as many other reviewers have already stated, a good tip is to store the cleaning solution cartridge closed (outside the cleaning station), so that the cleaning fluid will not evaporate. Proceeding this way, the cleaning fluid will last a far greater time and you'll have to buy less cleaning cartridges during a year. I also found that it's plenty satisfactory to use the cleaning station once a week (and I shave everyday!). After each shave, I just make a manual cleaning of the shaver, taking off most of the hair I can with the provided cleaning brush and blowing through the cassette. And, once a week, I do the "thorough" cleaning with the cleaning station. That's working fine for me.
Another complaint I have is that the shaver doesn't come with a protective plastic cap for its head. Ok, it comes with a very nice travelling case, but would it hurt to provide also a simple plastic cap for the shaving head, like those which come with Braun Series 3 (or most Panasonic models)?
So, in closing, I'd say that this is a VERY good shaver, if you are willing to pay the price of buying the cleaning fluid cartridges from Braun from time to time. I have also used in the past a Panasonic Arc 3 shaver and I could say that both Panasonic and Braun shave equally good. Panasonic models, though, have the advantage of permitting total cleaning of the inside parts manually, as the external shaving grid and internal blades are not "welded" together in a "cassette" - instead, they are easily detached from each other. But, in the other hand, maybe a manual cleaning will not be as thorough and hygienical than the complete fluid-cleaning cycle provided by the cleaning station. Well, for that matter, Panasonic also offers cleaning stations for people who want to use it. So, I'd say that choosing between Braun Series 7 and a Panasonic equivalent model is more a matter of taste, as they equally do well their job. I just don't recommend you to buy Braun Series 9, especially if you have thick facial hair. Series 7 shaves better - that's my experience.
Cumple con la expectativa relación costo beneficio.
TL;DR:
---------
After trying top of the line wet & dry from Braun (both 7 & 9) and Panasonic (Arc 5 - LV9N model) - I ended up keeping both the Braun series 7 and the Panasonic Arc 5. In my testing, the Arc 5 offers the best shaving, even if marginally so, and I prefer it as my everyday shaver. However, the Braun 7 comes close, and it is more compact, thus making it my travel choice, and why I ended keeping both. Braun 7 also offers best value for money. The Braun 9, in my opinion, offers no real advantage over the Braun 7, yet costs more and is bigger.
Disclaimer
--------------
After reading plenty of reviews online - it appears that unlike many other types of products, there is no one answer here. Each shaver has different design and therefore works better on specific types of faces. So what works best for me may not work best for you and vice versa. This is why I ended up buying and trying few of these products…
Having said that… review in depth:
The Competition
----------------------
I initially bought the Braun 7 (Wet&Dry, 7865cc) and was actually very happy with it. So happy that I realized I will be moving to shaving with a shaver from now (vs Gillette blades), so I decided to check out maybe there are benefits buying a higher end model.
I then ordered the Braun 9 (Wet&Dry, 9290cc). In my opinion it offered no real benefit so I ended up returning it.
Then I ordered the Panasonic Arc 5. Note that the Arc 5 has two “current” models - the LV95 (which is not noticeably more expensive than the Braun series 7), and the LV9N, which is still new and therefore costs 300$. The latter is considered to have better comfort over the former, and given that my neck area is a tad sensitive I figured it was worth the extra. The LV9N is the one reviewed here - I have no experience with the LV9S.
Quality of Shave
----------------------
Naturally, this is the most important feature of a shaver, so I will start with that. I find all three shavers to offer really good shaving. In fact, I was very skeptical coming into this (I used to shave with Gillette up until this point), and while none of these offer as smooth as a shave, the difference is really, really, small.
The Braun 7 was the firs tin the bunch, and I was really surprised with the closeness of the shave it offers. I got into this “adventure” a bit skeptical, but after trying the Braun 7 I realized this is good enough for me 99% of the time, and is faster and more comfortable than regular shaving.
I then tried the Braun 9 to see if it can offer closer more comfortable shave as suggested by some reviews. It did not, not for me at least. Even though the head is larger and there are more cutting blades, I did not feel any real difference. Apparently one of the big selling points of the Braun 9 is its ability to better cut longer hair (3+ days of growth). This is not a real use case for me so I did not see an advantage there. In both one day old hair and two days old hair - the results were quite identical. (As a side note I will say this - I find that going over 2 days without shaving makes it quite hard for a shaver to get great results. In the few instances where I skipped shaving, I realized it was easier to just use a cassette blade for that).
Finally I tried the Panasonic Arc 5. The Arc 5 is also quite big - but here you get something in return. The shave is ever so closer. Is it a huge diff? Not really…. But when shaving one side Braun and the other Panasonic, my wife can always tell which one is the Panasonic one. This is true right after shaving, and also 3 or 6 hours after). It is also a tad faster to shave with, esp with one day long hair, although again, the difference is small, as I need to do a similar process with all shavers (i.e. I can go only in a single directions on my face, but have to criss-cross in my neck area which is harder to shave - and that is true with all 3 shavers).
Comfort of Shave
-----------------------
Comfort of shave was the biggest concern for me going into this. Roughly 20 years ago I tried buying a shaver and was very distressed by the rash I got. I gave up shavers since and not tried them until now. I can say all three shavers are very good in this respect.
The Braun 7 is a very comfortable shaver. I had very very mild itching in the first couple of days in my neck (which is sensitive), but they went away and never had a problem since, even when skipping 2-3 days of shaving.
The Braun 9 is similarly comfortable. Some claims say it is more comfortable, and that may be true for some - but I did not feel any difference.
Regarding the Arc5 - It’s hard for me to give a similar review as I tried it already after using the braun for some weeks (and thus my skin got used to the electric shaving first). Today, I do not feel any difference in comfort between the Arc 5 and the Braun 7. I can, however, say that in the second or third day of using the Arc 5, I had some rash on my neck - it was a combination of shaving rather “aggressively” (i.e. pushing) and having a day with a lot of physical labor (i.e. sweating), so it’s hard to put all the blame on the Arc 5. Nonetheless, it was there and it was so notable I skipped shaving the day after to let it relax. This has not occurred since again, and so now they offer similar comfort. Some reviews I read on the previous model (the LV95) suggest comfort is a little less perfect there, so point to be taken.
Handling
------------
I like holding the Braun 7 the best. It is compact (which also makes it better for travel), and it feels more solid (probably because of the size/weight ratio). I also like the type of plastic it is made of. It’s a great shaver, really. Both Arc 5 and The Braun 9 are noticeably larger, which is sort of a disadvantage, esp. above the lips area. They also feel less solid (even though they are not), with the Braun 9 scoring the last place here in my opinion. The Arc 5 has the best locking and trimming mechanism in my eyes, and also offers two axis of movement for the (large) head, while the Braun 7 only offers one axis of movement (but its smaller head makes it a little less required). Bottom line, if they all shaved the same, I would use only the Braun 7.
Display
----------
The Braun 7 has a very basic “display” while the Arc 5 offers more data and the Braun 9 even more. If you ask me - this is all complete waste of electronics and cost. The only thing to really care about is battery life. The braun 7 is a little more basic in it, while the Braun 9 and Arc 5 offers more granular data (Arc 5 shows it in percentage in jumps of 10%). The rest of the data, like “how long did you shave” etc - is meaningless, at least to me. In any case, for my use case, the Arc 5 and Braun 7 are “opposite”. The Arc 5 offers more granular battery life, but I intend to use it at home only, whereas the Braun 7 is intended for travel. I would consider all of this non-decision point anyway.
Cleaning Station
----------------------
All three models come with cleaning stations. For me this was non negotiable as I do not like to waste time on cleaning etc. Looking back, I may have bought the Braun 7 without the cleaning station as it is mostly for travel, although I think even this way I would be happy to come back from a business trip and just throw it to the cleaning station rather than starting to take it apart.
All 3 cleaning stations seem to be working similarly well, although in different approaches. The Braun stations look a little cooler, and offer a 3 level indicator as to how dirty the shaver is (low/medium/high), where as the Panasonic Arc 5 only shows you where it thinks you should clean it or not.
The Brauns use “cassettes” of cleaners which come with the fluid inside. It is flammable and thus harder to carry with you for travel if you travel longer and want to carry the unit. They are also harder to order (will only ship by ground shipping etc.), and more expensive. The Panasonic uses a soap based solution which comes in nice small packets. It takes a few seconds longer to mix it with water but its not a big deal.
Bottom line - hardly a decision making point either…
Conclusion
---------------
You can’t go wrong with either of these models. As I said above - I ended up staying with the Braun 7 as my travel shaver and the Arc 5 as my home shaver and I’m happy with both.
I've used several types of electric shavers over the years - from Panasonic Arc5's to this, and this is my favorite for a variety of reasons but mainly because it gives me a super close shave - and shaves well under my chin/upper neck area.
In the past, other razors have failed to shave well under my chin and upper neck. They might shave my cheeks great - but it didn't matter when I'd have to take out another electric razor to finish the job. Then I discovered the Series 7, and it did everything well. As I said before it lasted me 10 years, and I'm on my second one now and it's great.
If I could change one thing about it - I wish the sideburn trimmer was a tad wider. When my hair grows longer, my sideburns grow a little wider and sometimes I find myself switching to my old (but wider sideburn trimmer) Panasonic but strictly to shave an even sideburn line before switching right back to the Braun.
The cleaning station works well, it gives the razor a fresh lemon scent after it's done. One trick I learned about years ago is to save the top to the cleaning solution, and after your razor is finished/clean, remove the solution tray and put the top back on. This has saved me from going through them quickly as the alcohol inside tends to dry up if left open as most people probably would do.
Overall, this razor is great and it's been my favorite razor I've ever used. One thing I forgot to mention is it has a sensitivity setting so if you're prone to razor burn, you can use a more gentle setting. I typically use the "harshest" setting and I never have a problem!
But, in all of those purchases, Braun continues to provide the best electric shave out there.
One other preamble: I have pretty sensitive skin. It's why I've so often tried to switch to electric. After a particularly rough week shaving with a blade, I made yet another venture into electric, this time settling on the Braun Series 7.
Since it takes a while for the face to get "familiar" with a new electric razor, I waited a month before reviewing my purchase.
I have to say, I enjoy the simple and sleek design. It rolls across the face smoothly and easily with no irritation. The razor does a fine job giving a close shave, probably the closest electric ever, including previous Braun shavers.
The head is small enough to run across the curves of the chin and even under the nose, but still of appropriate size to complete a shave in a few minutes. It is not overly noisy and the hand grip is both comfortable and secure.
The cleaning system is, as always. The plastic container of fluid that snaps into the charging station. It's not really necessary and does add cost over time, but the total price was an Amazon Prime Day deal, so I got sucked in. Heh.
If there was anything I could nitpick it is the lack of a trimming blade (for sideburns or beard edge trimming). It's not a Braun shaver feature and wouldn't work with their cleaning system anyway. Just means I have to use my separate trimmer when needed.
From my past experience, Braun makes the best electric shavers. This Series 7 confirms that opinion. I get a close, non-irritating shave in a comfortable and efficient package. Still can't beat a blade for closeness, but it's as good as you'll get with electric.
